The build plan for the Hawk’s Nest

Built for full-time living or extended travel, it features a private bathroom with a hot shower and toilet, a full-size bed, a massive 32” TV, and a spacious couch for relaxing or entertaining. The kitchen includes a 130L refrigerator, convection oven microwave, water purification system, ample cabinets and a dedicated liquor cabinet. You’ll find generous built-in storage—including a clothes dresser. Powering the Hawk's nest is a 750W solar array and DC-DC charger, charging 840amp hours of battery at 12v, allowing you to power the air conditioner, and all your appliances just like you would at home. With high-end finishes, efficient climate zones, and true off-grid capability, The Hawk’s Nest redefines what’s possible in a luxury tiny home on wheels.

Multi-Layered Flooring System

From the ground up, The Hawk’s Nest is built for comfort and durability. With layers of sound-deadening foam, XPS insulation, structural plywood, heated flooring, and luxury vinyl plank—this floor is warm, quiet, rugged, and ready for real life on the road. The Hawk's Nest has a five layer floor, plus a heated element that heats the aisle way right down the middle. This will be our most insulated floor yet, while still allowing 6' 1" head / standing room.

Thoughtfully Designed Entryway

Right inside the sliding door, you’ll find a convenient bench seat—perfect for taking off your shoes and hanging up your coat. The built-in storage box is ideal for stashing footwear, dog leashes, umbrellas, and other grab-and-go items. It also serves as a guest seat, making it easy to comfortably seat four adults for drinks and conversation. It’s a small space with a big impact—both functional and welcoming.

Dual Interior Doors for Climate Control, Privacy, and Stealth

The Hawk’s Nest is designed with an interior door to the cab and another to the rear, enclosing the living space from both ends. This setup provides superior heat blocking and allows you to cool or heat a smaller, more efficient zone—perfect for extreme weather. It also eliminates the need for windshield blinds. Just close the cab door, and from the outside, it looks like no one’s inside—offering a discreet, stealthy profile and added peace of mind when parked. Plus, you still have full access to the cab and rear exit doors whenever you need them.

Fully Equipped Off-Grid Kitchen

The Hawk’s Nest kitchen is designed to bring home-style functionality to the road. It features a spacious 130-liter Dometic refrigerator, a sleek induction pull-out cooktop, and a convection oven microwave, allowing you to cook full meals with ease, even off-grid. A built-in water purification system ensures clean, safe drinking water at all times. The solid surface countertop stretches a generous 5 feet long by 22 inches deep, offering plenty of space for meal prep, coffee-making, or daily routines. With thoughtfully designed cabinetry and ample storage for dishes, dry goods, and cookware, this kitchen is ready for life on the move.

Custom Flat Ceiling with Mini Truss System

Unlike the typical curved van ceiling, The Hawk’s Nest features a sleek, double insulated flat ceiling—giving the interior a more open, home-like feel. We custom-build mini trusses and glue-and-screw them directly to the factory metal ribs, creating a strong, level surface without sacrificing headroom. In fact, this design actually adds about half an inch of ceiling height while providing a solid structure to anchor cabinets, and support walls. It’s a smart, clean upgrade that makes a big visual and functional impact and takes this van to another level.

Premium Sound Deadening & Thermal Insulation

The Hawk’s Nest is fully insulated for year-round comfort and a quieter ride. We install a two-layer system throughout the van: first, a 4mm Siless Liner—closed-cell foam that reduces heat transfer and dampens sound. Then we add 3M Thinsulate™ (SM600L), a high-performance acoustic and thermal insulation made from lightweight, hydrophobic fibers that resist moisture, mold, and mildew. Thinsulate not only keeps the van warmer in winter and cooler in summer, but also helps absorb road and ambient noise while reducing vibration in the sheet metal. It’s flame-resistant, FMVSS 302 certified, and ideal for van life durability and comfort.

Electric System – Power without Limits

The Hawk’s Nest is built around a cutting‑edge electrical powerhouse designed for true off‑grid freedom. Even with daily hot showers, two home‑cooked meals, bright lighting, and a full‑time refrigerator, The Hawk’s Nest is designed to stay off‑grid for as long as you are unplugged. All appliances are 100% electric. Enjoy all the comforts of home without the hassle or danger of propane. At the heart of the system are three LiTime 12‑volt, 280 Ah lithium batteries with Bluetooth management, giving you real‑time insights and an incredible 840 Ah of total capacity. Paired with Victron’s flagship 3000W inverter, this system easily runs two major appliances at once—including the water heater, convection microwave, or induction cooktop.

Water System Built for True Off‑Grid Living

The Hawk’s Nest is engineered to keep you completely self‑sufficient for a week or more at a time—without ever sacrificing comfort. A massive 39‑gallon fresh water tank supplies enough for two people to enjoy two hot showers every day, while a 2.5‑gallon electric water heater delivers back‑to‑back showers. Your drinking water is always pure and great‑tasting, thanks to a WaterDrop under‑sink purification system, while every drop entering the tank first passes through a whole‑house carbon and sediment filter to keep the system fresh and clean. A generous 36‑gallon holding tank lets you stay put for extended stays, and when it’s time to empty, a motorized ball valve—operated with a switch inside the cabin—makes draining effortless. Every line is built with ultra‑durable PEX‑A tubing, creating a resilient, leak‑resistant plumbing system ready to handle the demands of life on the road.

Lounge by Day, Full‑Size Comfort by Night

The Hawk’s Nest features a 75‑inch lounge couch that transforms into a full‑size bed in just seconds, giving you the perfect balance of daytime relaxation and nighttime comfort. Beneath this sleek couch lies the van’s powerhouse electrical system, seamlessly integrated and out of sight. An ottoman doubles as clever storage, keeping grab‑and‑go essentials like shoes, an umbrella, or a flashlight right at hand. A 32‑inch TV swivels out, giving you perfect viewing from any angle on the couch—so you can stretch out and enjoy your favorite shows. Within arm’s reach, you can set the three‑zone ambient lighting, charge devices from AC outlets or USB ports, and enjoy a space designed for both convenience and comfort on the road.

The Hawk’s Nest Solar and DC-DC Charging System

The Hawk’s Nest combines a robust 900-watt rooftop solar array with a Sterling BB12120 DC‑to‑DC charger, delivering up to 120 amps (1,200 watts) directly from the van’s upgraded 220-amp alternator while driving. Most van builds rely on just 30–60 amps of DC charging and underpowered solar, but this dual system ensures rapid battery recovery in all conditions. Whether stationary or in motion, the system actively powers high-demand appliances and recharges the 840Ah lithium battery bank without reliance on shore power—maximizing runtime and true off-grid capability.
